Inspired by the life and generosity of Trayvon Delane Trammer, A Gift From Tray is dedicated to uplifting African American males from single-parent homes as they pursue higher education. Learn more about our mission, values, and the impact we strive to make in their lives.
At A Gift From Tray, our mission is to empower African American males from single-parent homes by providing scholarships, mentorship, and essential resources as they pursue higher education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). We understand that financial burdens, lack of guidance, and personal challenges can hinder success, so we strive to bridge these gaps by offering support that extends beyond academics.
Through scholarships, we alleviate financial strain, while our mentorship programs connect students with professionals who provide guidance, encouragement, and career insights. Additionally, we create a safe space for students to share their experiences, challenges, and victories, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Our ultimate goal is to increase the number of African American men who not only enter HBCUs but graduate with confidence, resilience, and the tools needed to succeed in their personal and professional lives, ensuring that the legacy of Trayvon Delane Trammer continues to inspire and uplift future generations.
Our primary goal is to empower African American males from single-parent homes by providing scholarships, mentorship, and a supportive community as they navigate their journey through Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
We are committed to increasing the number of young men who not only enroll in HBCUs but persist and graduate with the confidence, knowledge, and resources needed to succeed. Understanding the challenges many of these students face—financial strain, lack of mentorship, and feelings of isolation—we strive to break down barriers by offering financial assistance, career guidance, and emotional support. Beyond academics, we provide a safe space where students can openly share their accomplishments, challenges, and fears, fostering a sense of belonging and encouragement. Through this holistic support system, we aim to uplift, inspire, and equip these young men for lifelong success, ensuring that Trayvon Delane Trammer’s legacy continues to change lives for generations to come.
A Gift From Tray was created in honor of my son, Trayvon Delane Trammer, whose life was tragically cut short on November 27, 2017, just seven days before his 21st birthday. At the time, he was a junior at Central State University in Wilberforce, OH. Like many other grieving parents, I sought ways to honor his memory and continue his legacy of kindness and service.
As a single mother, I understand the hardships that come with raising a child alone. I created this organization to continue the work that Trayvon did: by continuing to encourage, empower and motivate young black men. This is my way of keeping his spirit alive—by ensuring that no young man has to navigate college alone.
